Revelation19:20"And the wild beast was caught, and along with it the false prophet.... misled those who received the mark of the wild beast and those who worship its image. While still alive, they both were hurled into the fiery lake that burns with sulfur. 21 But the rest were killed off with the long sword that proceeded out of the mouth of the one seated on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh."
To keep thing shortish, This does not mean they are alive in the lake of fire. It means they were already alive and then they experienced the lake of fire.They were alive on their path to the lake of fire, but once the destination is complete, they then experience destruction. So the last King(s) to wage war with Jesus at Armageddon will have their kingdoms and power snatched away from them. If everlasting fire = destruction, why weren't they eaten along with the worshippers of the beast?
This is simple to answer, those not destroyed had there carcasses eaten by the birds. So it can only mean the wild beast and prophet were destroyed so badly that they were reduced to ashes.
2 Peter 2:6 "And by reducing the cities of Sod′om and Go·mor′rah to ashes, he condemned them,setting a pattern for ungodly people of things to come"
