What does the bible say about the Dead?

They are unconscious. The Bible does not support that philosophical idea that the soul continues to lives when you die.

(NWT)Ecclesiastes 9:5  "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten."

Ecclesiastes 9:6"Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and to time indefinite they have no more share in all that is done under the sun."

Psalms 13:3 Look upon me and answer me, O Jehovah my God. Give light to my eyes, so that I may not fall asleep in death,

(NLT)Ecclesiastes 9:10"Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom."

(ESV)Psalms 115:17"The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence."

1Thessalonians 4:13"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep [in death], so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope."

(NWT) Psalms 146:4 " .His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; On that very day his thoughts perish.

  1. The book of Ecclesiastes keeps mentioning the phrase "under the sun", that means On Earth. The dead have no more say on earth, all they leave behind are memories, the writer wasnt talking about anything supernatural i.e heaven or hell. Jesus says he came to give us eternal life and the opposite of eternal life was death. There are two types of life- The breath of life which is in all flesh and eternal life which is in Jesus. The living in heaven praise the lord, anyone that doesnt have life cannot praise God. That means those people in hell cannot praise God, it doesnt mean there isnt life after earth. You'll probably call the story of the rich man and Lazarus a metaphorical parable but what will you say about Jesus's "Today you'll be with me in paradise?"

These scriptures don't say under the sun.
Jesus went to the grave and not paradise, he was only telling me that day, that he would be in paradise. The first ressurection(the anointed 144,000) didn't take place until many many years after Jesus death. And I'm sure the guy wasn't part of the 144,000
